Several people have been arrested and charged with gross social security fraud and gross theft of the proceeds in a coordinated action carried out by Økokrim on Tuesday.

The action was carried out on the basis of a review from Nav. In connection with the operation, searchers were carried out in several places and valuables were seized. A person is also wanted.

-”In this case, we have worked closely with the Oslo police district. We have also received assistance from the Southeast and Southwest Police District.”, said Police Attorney, Daniel Sollie, of Økokrim.

Incorrect information must have been given in order to be paid close to 4 million NOK through the temporary wage compensation plan that was introduced in connection with the pandemic.

The notified parties must have utilized the automated processes that Nav put in place to streamline case processing.

-”In our threat assessment, we have emphasized that the compensation plan for the business community is likely to attract criminals, and that fraud with unemployment benefits could increase as a result of the corona pandemic.”, Sollie said.

The police attorney notes that for general preventative reasons it is important that such violations are investigated.

-”The plan is based on a special trust, and abuse of this trust and the benefit plans are crimes that affect the community.”, he says.

Økokrim works with several reports from Nav and will also in these cases cooperate with relevant police districts.
