A person has been arrested and charged with espionage, the Swedish Security Service (Säpo) announced on Tuesday.

The person was arrested in Central Sweden on Tuesday, Säpo wrote in a press release.

The press release notes that the arrest took place in connection with an investigation carried out by Säpo, under the leadership of the prosecuting authority at the National Unit for Security Affairs in Sweden.

It further states that it will take more time before the investigation is complete.

Press spokesman for Säpo, Gabriel Wernstedt, told the newspaper Aftonbladet that the arrest is linked to a major investigation into a person who has previously been chief of staff in both Säpo and the military.
