The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) has issued an orange warning for landslides and avalanches in Sør-Troms and northern parts of Nordland. There is also a risk of extremely heavy rain and flooding.

“The risk of landslides and avalanches is increasing,” the NVE wrote. The danger warning applies to Friday in Sør-Troms, Lofoten and Vesterålen, Ofoten, Salten, Svartisen, and Helgeland.

In the warning, the NVE also issued a warning to skiers in the areas where the avalanche warning applies.

“Skiers can easily trigger landslides.”

Heavy rain

The NVE also warned that there is a danger of extremely heavy rain on Saturday in Salten, Ofoten, Vesterålen, and Sør-Troms. In total, up to 80-120 millimeters of rain is expected during the day, which can lead to surface water in densely populated areas, as well as closed roads.

Saturday’s rain also means that there is a risk of landslides, mudslides, and floods in large parts of Nordland and parts of Troms on Saturday.

“More landslides and mudslides are expected. Some can have major consequences. Exposed buildings can be affected. Accessibility by road and rail can be reduced,” the NVE noted.
