A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with preparations for a terrorist act, the Police Security Service (PST) announced.

He will have a custody hearing on Friday at 1:00 PM.

The arrest took place in Oslo on Thursday, according to the PST. The 16-year-old is not a Norwegian citizen.

The custody meeting will be held in Oslo District Court.

VG: Jihadist and ISIS sympathizer

According to the newspaper VG, the PST believes that the 16-year-old is a jihadist and ISIS sympathizer.

He is said to have come from Syria to Norway through family reunification. He was allegedly planning a terrorist act in Norway.

Doesn’t admit guilt

“He does not admit guilt… We believe that imprisonment is disproportionate due to his age,” the boy’s lawyer Andreas Berg Fevang told news bureau NTB.

PST chief Hans Sverre Sjøvold told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) that the 16-year-old comes from Syria.

“He has conducted activities over time that we believe are punishable,” Sjøvold said.
