Oslo’s City Council is extending the social lockdown by two more weeks. At the same time, corona measures related to children will be softened from Thursday.

“The start of 2021 has given us a very clear signal. We’re far from done. We are still in a serious and uncertain situation. We can not take any chances,” City Council chief Raymond Johansen said at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

At the press conference, he said that the City Council has decided that the social lockdown, which has now been in place for two and a half months, will be extended for another two weeks.

That means, among other things, that the alcohol serving ban will be continued until February 4.

Some concessions

However, as the infection trend has been declining in the capital in recent days, the City Council is making some concessions for children from Thursday.

Indoors leisure activities and sports will be reopened for children of primary school age.

“For Oslo, the following line applies: When we open up, we will first prioritize children and young people, and if we want to open up for alcohol serving, the infection rates must be further reduced. I have great faith that we can achieve this in the coming weeks,” Johansen concluded.
