Oslo is covering half of the costs for citizens who want to switch to studded bicycle tires
Oslo Municipality must expand its subsidy scheme for studded tires for bicycles after a flood of applications. Since Monday, the Norwegian Climate Agency has received 4,114 applications.
Within the subsidy scheme, Oslo citizens can be reimbursed half of the costs of switching to studded tires on their bicycles, as well as workshop costs.
The subsidy scheme was launched on Monday, and in just one day, 2,700 people applied for support.
“Oslo is experiencing a bicycle boom,” director Heidi Sørensen in the Climate Agency told newspaper Dagsavisen.
“We want to give cyclists an opportunity to continue with the good trend into the winter. You do not need more than two good tires to ride safely in the winter,” she added.
