From now on, those who want something other than vegetarian food at Oslo Municipality’s events must say so in advance.

Vegetarian food will be made standard at events organized by Oslo Municipality, the newspaper Vårt Oslo writes.

“Vegetarian food will be the standard choice at municipal events. That means that vegetarian food will be is served,” a directive that the City Council sent to 55 municipal enterprises in Oslo on January 3 this year states.

“- unless the guest asks for something else,” it is further explained.

The Center Party’s reaction

Oslo’s Center Party reacted to the City Council’s decision. It believes it is not good for the Norwegian food supply.

“Instead of working against the production of food for which we have the natural preconditions, the City Council should work to have the Municipality offer local food (that hasn’t traveled a long distance),” City Council representative Morten Edvardsen in the Center Party in Oslo stated.

In 2019, according to the newspaper Nettavisen, Oslo Municipality made vegetarian food the standard choice at its Christmas dinner party, and those who wanted meat had to say so in advance.
