Over 20,000 complaints been received by Sanitation Department after garbage problems in Oslo has accumulated. Nevertheless, only hundreds of cases received fines.

– There is no goal to give fine, it is a means to get normal operations under the contract, says communications director Tone Dalen in REN to the newspaper Aftenposten.

According to the newspaper REN had registered 21,462 complaints. If they all had a bin, it would alone provide grounds for NOK 21.5 million in fines for each day they were not cleared.

– We are much more concerned that it is inserted into several cars and several crews than by giving fines. In the contract, it says that we can demand penalties.

We make ongoing assessments of how appropriate it is to demand penalties assessed against other possible sanctions in the contract, says Dalen.

Garbage firm Veireno have in relation to the contract released very cheap away, the rates are at 1,000 crowns per day for waste containers under 1,200 liters and 6,000 kroner for the one above that.

REN has only in October imposed garbage company to pay additional costs for around 5 million, said that in a statement.

Veireno owner Jonny Enger says the course has budgeted additional start-up expenses.
– Slightly more it has become, but it is full manageable.
