On Monday evening, Oslo City Council leader Raymond Johansen (AP) announced a decree on the use of face masks, making them obligatory on public transport in Oslo in times of congestion.

The decree enters into force from Tuesday.

“Today, we introduce a decree for the use of face masks on public transport,” Johansen said at a press conference.

Until now, the City Council has only strongly recommended wearing face masks, but now a decree is being introduced.

Police to enforce measure

“We see that the use of face masks is still too low,” Johansen said.

When it is not possible to keep a meter of distance from fellow passengers, wear a face mask.

“In reality, that means that everyone must bring a face mask on board (public transport),” Johansen noted.

The police will enforce the use of face masks, Johansen stated at the press conference.

The decree applies from Tuesday, September 29, at noon.
