The Oslo Police District will investigate the recent threats aimed at Green Party (MDG) politician Lan Marie Berg.
The police will investigate whether the statements and threats aimed at Berg are punishable. Among other things, they will assess whether they are considered reckless behavior and incitement to criminal acts.
“Threats and hate speech against politicians and elected representatives pose a serious threat to our democracy,” police chief Beate Gangås noted in a press release on Wednesday.
Berg, the City Councilor for the Environment and Transport in Oslo, has been exposed to large amounts of threats on the internet for several years.
On Monday, the Oslo police stated that they are considering an investigation into the threats. The MDG politician called it a great relief.
“I have also greatly appreciated the fact that many, including political opponents, have clearly stated that it is not okay to post provocative or threatening comments. Thank you very much for your consideration,” Berg wrote on Facebook.
