Over 100 weapons have been seized in east Oslo this year.

After several incidents involving stabbings and other weapon incidents, the police and Oslo politicians have expressed concern that many, especially young people, carry weapons.

The east Oslo police unit has seized 80 assault and stabbing weapons and 35 firearms so far this year, the newspapers Akers Avis Groruddalen and Klassekampen write.

The chief of the Manglerud police station, Sigve Bolstad, told Klassekampen that the police have stepped up knife checks now.

“We try to stay ahead of the curve and work proactively. We concentrate our efforts around where there is activity,” Bolstad said.
