According to the Israeli army, more than 1,000 rockets have been fired from Gaza against Israel since the conflict escalated on Monday.

Army spokesman Jonathan Conricus says 850 rockets fired by various armed groups in the Gaza Strip have landed in Israel or been intercepted by Israeli air defenses. Another 200 fell in Gaza.

In return, Israel has carried out hundreds of attacks on the Gaza Strip.

35 Palestinians have been killed, including ten children, and five Israelis have been killed by rockets from Gaza.

Conricus insists that Israel only attacks military targets and does all it can to prevent civilians from being hit.

On Tuesday, they bombed a 12-story building that Hamas says was a civilian apartment block, but which Israel claims was used by Hamas for military purposes and was, therefore, a legitimate target.

He said they had notified the residents in advance by phone, which is why there were no civilians killed.
