Passers-by find dead person at Gamvik in Finnmark

A dead person was found on Thursday on the shore southeast of Gamvik in Finnmark. 

“The person showed signs of being there for a while and was wearing clothes,” operations manager Tarjei Leinan-Mathisen in the Finnmark Police District told the newspaper iFinnmark.

The police were notified of the dead person at 6:30 PM. According to the newspaper, the site is not far from the site where 74-year-old Reidar Nilsen and his 43-year-old son Remi Andre Nilsen experienced a shipwreck on January 9.

Nilsen has been missing since, and at the beginning of February, the search outside Gamvik was canceled. Nilsen was previously the leader of the Norwegian Fishermen’s Association. His son was found dead after the shipwreck.

The police state that no other people in Finnmark are missing. Nilsen’s family has been notified. 

“We will wait for the autopsy before revealing the identity of the deceased,” operations manager Leinan-Mathisen noted.

The autopsy will probably be performed after the Easter weekend.
