New figures from the Norwegian Patient Injury Compensation (NPE) show that the time it takes to receive compensation after incorrect treatment has decreased.

The waiting time for compensation has been reduced by 50 days, the figures from NPE show.

This corresponds to a decrease of 8 percent compared with the first half of last year for patients who were awarded compensation.

– “It is important to make the waiting time as short as possible when something has gone wrong in the health service,” says director Rolf Gunnar Jørstad in NPE in a press release.

Patients who were granted their application for compensation received a total of NOK 603 million in the first half of the year, which is an increase of NOK 95 million compared with the same period last year.

So far, only a few patients have claimed compensation due to the Coronavirus interventions. Among those who have done this, compensation after postponed operations, loss of assets during Coronavirus treatment and mental strain after respiratory treatment are the most common causes.

It is too early to say for sure about the extent of patient injuries in connection with the corona pandemic, according to NPE.
