In ten years the number of people sentenced for the use and possession of small amounts of drugs has increased by 43 percent. The reports are almost exclusively from police.
The sharp increase in the number of sanctions for drug use and possession of doses of drug is revealed in a list from Statistics Norway,newspaper Aftenposten writes.
– We want the number of people sentenced for the use and possession of small amount of drugs to increase. Fighting drug use among young people and preventing recruitment has been a priority of the police for several years, section manager Astrid Birgitte Borge in the Police Directorate says.
Sanctions for more serious drug crimes have also increased. For other crimes, the figures are the same as ten years ago, the newspaper said.
