During the night between Saturday and Sunday, it started burning in a café in Oslogate at St. Halvard’s Square in the Old Town. Police suspect that somebody started the fire on purpose.

The emergency services were notified of the fire at 2:05 AM. Witnesses claim that a person broke a window on the spot. Shortly afterward, it started to burn, operations manager Vidar Pedersen in the Oslo Police District told NTB.

He says that residents upstairs evacuated themselves, but everyone was allowed to move back home after just over an hour.

“The location has been checked and reviewed by the fire crews, and everyone has been allowed to move back home,” Pedersen said at 3:30 AM.

“Now, at 2:30 AM, we have started getting the open flames under control,” Arvid Nordstrand of the Oslo fire and rescue service told NTB.

Just before 3 o’clock, the fire brigade announced that the fire had been extinguished.
