A fire has broken out near the Indian Serum Institute factory, which is the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer, local media report.

According to a source from the company, neither the production nor the stockpile of the corona vaccines are affected by the fire.

The Serum Institute produces millions of doses of the corona vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford.

India and neighboring countries depend on the vaccine doses produced in the huge factory in Pune in western India.

Large cloud of smoke

According to reports, the fire broke out at a construction site where the company is building a new facility.

Images show a large cloud of smoke over the area.

“The thick smoke complicates the extinguishing work,” the fire brigade told the TV channel NDTV.
