One of the world’s largest cargo ships for vehicles sailed through the narrow Svelviksundet on Friday morning.

232 meters long and 32 meters wide, “Morning Lady” docked safely at Drammen harbor on Friday morning.

Statlos’ Thomas Høvik in the Norwegian Coastal Administration told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) that small margins are involved when such a large ship is going through such a narrow strait.

Svelviksundet is a narrow strait of only 200 meters between the inner and outer part of the Drammensfjord.

Strong current

The Svelvik current is among Norway’s strongest.

“When we go in with such a large boat, we do not have very much space to use,” Høvik said to the national broadcaster before he boarded the boat.

Several people gathered to watch the ship pass. The ship is the largest that has docked at Drammen harbor and passed Svelviksundet. The cargo ship is transporting 700 cars to Drammen.
