Crown Prince Haakon is currently in Washington. On Wednesday, he met Democrat Nancy Pelosi, who is the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The two talked, among other things, about the royal house and World War II, Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt, who also attended the meeting, told the newspaper VG.

“The Crown Prince told Pelosi about his family during the war. How the royal family stayed here and the tradition it represents,” she told the newspaper.

Later, the Crown Prince and Pelosi talked a lot about what the two countries have in common, how the pandemic has affected Norway, and the climate, including Norway’s large share of electric cars, according to Huitfeldt.

Introductory speech

The royal house writes that Crown Prince Haakon also gave an introductory speech at the seminar “Arctic Winter,” which will take place at the Norwegian Embassy in the USA in the future. Among other things, the focus was on climate change and its impact on the Arctic.

Pelosi leads the Democrats in the House of Representatives. She has been elected from her constituency in San Francisco, California, for 33 years.

Minister of Trade and Industry Jan Christian Vestre and Minister of Petroleum and Energy Marte Mjøs Persen (both from the AP) were also originally part of the delegation to the US, but both have returned home due to the corona situation.
