On Wednesday, a girl became the 700,000th resident of Oslo when she was born at Rikshospitalet. In eleven years, Oslo has grown from 600,000 to 700,000 inhabitants.

Mayor Marianne Borgen congratulated the child and the parents at Rikshospitalet. The girl hasn’t been named yet.

Mother Andleeb Shamaila and father Waqas Gul met the mayor at the hospital.

“Welcoming a child to the world is a fantastic gift,” Mayor Marianne Borgen said.

The little girl was 50 cm tall and weighed 3,070 grams when she was born on Wednesday.

“The milestone of 700,000 inhabitants has already been reached. Today we mark that our city is growing and these new generations will be involved in shaping it… Oslo should be a generous, safe, and inclusive city that is good to live in for everyone,” Borgen continued.

The population of Oslo has grown by 100,000 since 2011.
