Russia has deployed more troops and more military equipment near the border with Ukraine, according to US satellite imagery (Maxar).

Several armored vehicles and soldiers left an area and moved into forest areas, and over fields between 14 to 30 kilometers from the border between Russia and Ukraine, the company wrote in an email.

The new photos were taken on Sunday and show traces of the vehicles over snow-covered fields surrounded by forest areas and roads in southwestern Russia. Several buildings are also visible on the satellite images.

“Most of the combat and support units in Soloti have left the area,” Maxar stated.

There is also activity near Valuyki, about 15 kilometers north of the border, and new deployments northwest of Belgorod, which is about 30 kilometers from the border. Much of the equipment is deployed near a forest area, while other units are deployed on farms and in industrial areas.

According to an official US source, of the more than 150,000 Russian troops (note: figure estimated by the United States and NATO) in the border regions, about half are ready to fight and can attack within 48 hours.

Russia denies plans to attack its neighbor to the west, but wants guarantees that Ukraine will not join NATO and that Western countries will withdraw their forces from Eastern Europe.

  1. Macron has apparently set up a meeting between Biden and Putin … for Thursday/torsdag?
Clearly, the Russians don’t want a war: they want security in printed and signed treaty form.
We would be well-advised to let them have it, in return for our own.
