Several Norwegian municipalities have hoisted the Ukrainian flag in solidarity with the people of the invaded country.

The Ukrainian flag has been hoisted at the old town hall in Bergen, Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK9 writes. The municipality has never done anything like that before.

“This is first and foremost a symbolic act, and we feel that we should have done much more. But this is done to show that we are on the side of the people from Ukraine,” City Council chief Roger Valhammer said. He added that Bergen is ready to receive refugees if asked.

The flag was also hoisted in Drammen on Friday morning, according to the newspaper Drammens Tidende. Stavanger did the same on Thursday. That same evening, Oslo City Hall was also illuminated in the colors of the Ukrainian flag.

“We do this as a small but symbolic act of solidarity with the people of Ukraine,” City Council chief Raymond Johansen told NTB on Thursday.

The Ukrainian flag was also hoisted at Stockholm City Hall, in Sweden, on Thursday.
