One person has been flown to the hospital after being rescued from a burning shrimp trawler at Moss in the Oslo Fjord on Thursday morning. The trawler sank.

At about 1:50 PM, the shrimp trawler that was on fire outside Fuglevik just south of Moss sank, according to Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

Propane bottles made extinguishing difficult

At 11 o’clock, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centres (Hovedredningssentralen – HRS), which coordinated the operation, announced that the extinguishing work was made difficult due to a report of propane bottles on board the trawler.

“It is currently unknown how many bottles are involved, but it is clear that this makes the work difficult. Due to the danger of explosion, distance must be maintained,” Vincent Roos in the HRS told NTB earlier in the day.

Sent to the hospital

One person was rescued from the trawler, and just before 11 o’clock, the person in question was transported to the hospital by a rescue helicopter. The patient was flown to Tønsberg Hospital.

“He inhaled some smoke,” Roos stated.

According to police information, there was only one person on board the trawler, according to operations manager Ronny Samuelsen. The police were notified of the fire at 10:16 AM.
