The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that a plane with evacuees landed at Gardermoen on Sunday. All the Afghan employees at the Norwegian Embassy in Kabul were on board the plane.

“It is a great relief that our locally employed Afghans and their families have now been evacuated from Kabul, and arrived safely in Norway,” Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide (H) said in a statement sent to NTB.

“They are employees who have worked with us and safeguarded Norwegian interests. They have been subjected to harsh stress in this evacuation, which has been both difficult and time-consuming,” she added.

Work on the evacuation of staff has been difficult since the Taliban seized power in Kabul. Norway has closed the embassy temporarily and decided to evacuate all employees.
