The police believe they have broken up a network that has tricked young people into paying large sums for access to closed groups where they can get information on “fixed” matches.

“They used Tiktok videos to show off successful people, with a lot of money and expensive cars… To join these closed groups, people would have to pay anywhere from 1,000 to 5,000 kroner,” police superintendent Christian Berge in the Eastern Police District told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

According to the police, almost 1,000 Norwegians aged 18–22 have been tricked into paying for membership in these closed groups in the past year.

Organized criminal network from Halden

The players are promised big returns by betting on “fixed” football matches. A total of NOK 11 million has gone through the accounts available to the criminal network. According to the police, none of the players received any winnings.

The police believe that an organized criminal network from Halden orchestrated the fraud.

A total of 22 people have been charged in the fraud case. Police believe eight of them had key roles. All eight deny criminal guilt.
