A police officer in the Nordland Police District has been charged with rape, the Norwegian Bureau for the Investigation of Police Affairs (Spesialenheten for politisaker) stated on Friday.

The police officer is charged with two violations of section 292 of the Criminal Code, the Bureau wrote in a press release. The officer is also charged with five cases of abuse of power and one case of misconduct.

VG writes that the police officer was charged with obtaining sexual intercourse by abusing his position in 2019

“This is a serious case that we have prioritized,” the head of the Bureau’s Investigation Department in Central Norway and Northern Norway, lawyer Halvor Hjelm-Hansen, said.

In December, the police officer’s lawyer Jon Christian Elden told newspaper VG that he denied guilt. The man was charged at that time.

“He thinks it is okay that the accusations are investigated and hopes for a swift prosecution decision so that he can return to his job,” Elden said.
