Police suspect that someone started the fire in the Old Town in Oslo on purpose: “A very serious case”

The police suspect somebody started the fire in a café in an apartment building in the Old Town in Oslo on purpose. Two men were seen running from the scene.

The emergency services were notified of the fire in Oslogate at St. Halvard’s Square at 2:05 AM. 

The police first informed NTB that one person was seen smashing a window on the spot just before the fire started. At 8 o’clock on Sunday morning, operations manager Tore Solberg in the Oslo Police District said that two people were seen at the scene.

“There were two tall, grown men with jackets or hoodies. They smashed the window… Shortly after, it started to burn,” Solberg said.

The police are still waiting for forensic investigations of the scene. Solberg hopes they will provide the police with more information.

“The police take the case very seriously,” Solberg noted.
