An elderly woman was found dead in Skien on Thursday. The police are asking for tips in the case.

“An elderly woman has been found dead. We want tips from the public who may have observed an elderly woman with a walker in the area between Gulsetsenteret and Hyni from Tuesday to Thursday,” police station chief Dag Størksen in Grenland told newspaper Varden.

The police received a message from a passer-by about a dead person at Hynivegen in Skien around 9 PM on Thursday.

No significant suspicion of criminal activity

The death was initially characterized as suspicious, but the police told NTB on Thursday morning that the suspicion of a criminal act has not been strengthened.

“There is nothing that strengthens the suspicion that we could be looking at a murder; rather, it is the opposite,” operations manager Jan Kristian Johnsrud in the Southeastern Police District told NTB on Friday morning.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday.

“The results will help decide what we will do next in the case,” Johnsrud said.

He states that the police worked on the scene last night, conducting forensic and tactical investigations.

Identity probably known

Johnsrud says that the police have a suspicion of who the person is but that the identity has not been determined yet.

An elderly woman has been missing in the area for several days, according to the newspaper Telemarksavisa.

The woman’s relatives have informed the police that they have not had contact with her for several days.
