A Polish man in his 20’s lost his life on Saturday when he slipped out in Månafossen in Frafjord in Gjesdal municipality in Rogaland.
The man was declared dead by a doctor on the spot said the police just before 18:00, almost three hours after the accident occurred. According to NRK news, he was walking with friends when he fell into the waterfall by accident.
Månafossen, which has a free-fall of 92 meters, is a popular tourist destination in Rogaland.
“We were notified at 14.58 that a person fell into the waterfall.There were a number of hikers in the area who reported on the incident,’’ said operation leader, Olaug Bjørnsen of the Southwest Police District to NTB news.
The man slipped down an edge, fell into the water and got stuck in seaweed about 10 meters from where the waterfall flows into a free fall for more than 90 meters.
The rescue helicopter arrived at approximately 16.00.
‘’The victim as pulled out on a Sea King. Climbers from the alpine rescue group who tred to assist in this process,’’alerted the police just before 17.00.
