On Friday, Pope Francis paid a personal visit to the Russian embassy to express his concern over the war in Ukraine.

Pope Francis sidelined normal protocol – he didn’t summon the Russian ambassador via the Vatican’s foreign minister. The fact that he chose to go to the Russian embassy in person is a strong expression of his anger over the war, the news agency AP noted.

Vatican officials say they have not seen anything like it before. Spokesman Matteo Bruni confirmed the visit.

The Vatican press office confirmed that Pope Francis went to the Russian embassy in the Vatican to clearly express his concern about the war. He was there for a little over half an hour, Bruni added.
