Pride artwork vandalized in Bergen: “It’s frightening”

The pride-banana artwork by the street artist Play on a wall by the Grieg Hall in Bergen has been vandalized and soiled with black paint.

“Someone has been provoked by the colorful banana and tried to destroy the artwork,” the artist Play told the newspaper VG.

“I think it is frightening that some people allow themselves to believe that they have the right to condemn others for their orientation or identity.

“They should take care of their own affairs and rather focus on working with on own challenges because they obviously have a lot to work on,” Play added.

The artist took a hard line against those behind the vandalism if their purpose was to undermine Pride. Still, Play thinks the new paint has given the street art a cool look.

“They must actually have planned it and prepared it over several days. It’s pretty cool that they’ve actually made themselves criminals for trying to censor me,” Play said.
