During the annual summer season at the Royal Palace, the 150th anniversary of Queen Maud’s birthday will be marked. This year’s season starts on Saturday 22 June.

The anniversary is marked with the exhibition “Queen meetings”, where the stories of the Royal House’s first ladies in the past, present and future are crossed.

This year’s exhibition “Queens’ meetings” staged, through exclusive outfits and personal items, different situations where Queen Maud and Queen Sonja have met. At the castle balcony, for afternoon tea in the mirror room, for the magnificent castle ball in the large banquet hall and finally for a historically-discovered dinner table in the large dining room, where the two queens can accommodate Crown Princess Märtha, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Ingrid Alexandra.

The exhibition also presents various aspects of the two queens’ interests – from Queen Maud’s enthusiasm for speed and horses to Queen Sonja’s dedicated work for art and culture. The exhibition is produced in collaboration with The Norwegian Opera & Ballet.

Every summer, the Royal Couple opens the Royal Palace to the public. This year’s season lasts through August 25th.

Maud was Queen of Norway from 1905 until her death in 1938. In 1896, Princess Maud married Prince Carl of Denmark. In 1905 he was elected Norwegian king and took the name Haakon VII.
