The crane vessel Gulliver began the operation on Sunday afternoon of raising and turning the Russian trawler which burned and then sank in Breivika in Tromsø in September.

According to the plan, the crane vessel will connect to the damaged ship Bukhta Naezdnik and gradually raise and turn it, while pumping out water, writes iTromsø.

The operation will take place at the same time as other safety work.

The Norwegian Coastal Administration (Kystverket) has instructed the shipping company that owns the trawler to remove the wreck by the New Year, among other things to limit pollution from the accident.

The trawler was on fire from 25th – 26th September. Due to explosion hazards and heavy smoke, the fire led to many closed roads, closed schools and other problems in Tromsø before the trawler sank and the fire went out.
