Raja warns nikab ban

Politician Abid RajaAbid Raja

Liberal Abid Raja says he has loathed when he saw women in burkas and nikab. But he warns strongly against a ban.
– I think we politicians should not mix in what people should wear. I see that the debate is raging in Norway, it is characterized by emotion and it looks as if we go in the direction of a populist ban. I pray Labor think carefully: Is it really not politicians tasked to regulate people’s clothing, says the profiled Liberal politician to newspaper VG.
Raja, who is Muslim, added, however, he can’t hide the fact that he is unhappy about the garments.
– I may well be honest about my feelings when I see women in burka and nikab: Often I feel sorry for them and I will also be embarrassed on behalf of Muslims. I’ve actually known the feeling of disgust, he says.
The government has said no to a national nikab ban in schools, despite the fact that FRP is in power. Labor leader Jonas Gahr Støre has said he does not reject such a proposal.
