The hospitals in the health region of the Southern and Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority had 248 corona patients admitted on Monday, the highest number so far during the pandemic.

The number of patients has increased by 14 since Sunday, according to the most recent overview.

Previously, 245 hospitalized people on April 11 last year was the highest number. The admissions have gained momentum in the last month.

In the last two weeks of February, between 52 and 80 patients were admitted to hospitals in the health region.

The national figures for corona inpatients will be updated later Monday. On Sunday, the number was 275, an increase of eleven patients from the day before.

Latest forecasts

According to forecasts prepared by the Southern and Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority in collaboration with the National Institute of Public Health (FHI), in four weeks, as many as around 1,000 people – with 200 intensive care patients – might be admitted to hospitals if the infection control measures do not have an effect on the situation.

A number of hospitals in Eastern Norway are already operating at the “yellow” level, which entails an increased need for staffing.

It has been announced that employees from other health regions will assist where the pressure is greatest, namely Oslo University Hospital, Akershus University Hospital, and Vestre Viken.
