Large parts of Norway’s population have winter holidays this week. The Red Cross has noticed an increase in inquiries on free holiday offers.

The organization says they received inquiries from groups that haven’t needed help previously.

“Many families struggled financially before the corona, it is even tougher now. The need is greater than ever as many are laid off, have lower incomes, and worry about the future,” Pernille Lemming in the Red Cross noted in a press release.

The pandemic leads to financially uncertain times, and many families with children struggle to afford holiday trips, the Red Cross pointed out.

They emphasize that the need is great, not least for the children.

“Many families live in cramped conditions. They went through many months of home school and home kindergarten. Now they need to have a holiday after a long and demanding period,” Lemming said.
