The restaurant Toldboden in Ålesund was fined NOK 75,000 for violating the infection control rules. It refused to accept the fine. Thus, the case will go to the district court.

“We choose not to accept the fine because we believe that the police’s findings are not a strong enough basis (for the case),” Christian Bernhard Olsvik in Ålesund told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

He is the general manager of HR Restaurantdrift, which ran Toldboden until May 1. Ålesund Municipality reported the restaurant for breach of the COVID regulations from April 16 to 18.

Large outbreak

A total of more than 200 people were infected with coronavirus after an outbreak at the restaurant this weekend, according to NRK.

The police stated that the nightclub served people alcohol without food alongside the drinks, as stipulated in the regulations.

“There is no mention in the regulations about how long a meal can last or how much drinks can be served with a meal,” Olsvik said.
