The mother, who is accused of killing a seven-year-old and one-year-old son, wanted to follow the sons in death but was rescued. In court, she said she regretted not looking for help.

The woman in her 30s is charged with the premeditated murder of the two sons last July. When the trial started in Romerike and Glåmdal District Court on Monday, the woman did not plead guilty after the indictment but said that only she could be the one behind the act.

“I do not remember, but it must have been me,” the woman replied.

State Attorney Ane Evang asked the accused to share her personal story with the court, which included a turbulent marriage where the woman felt betrayed and exploited.

The couple was separated but remained in contact and shared the care of the boys. Occasionally in tears, the accused answered the prosecutor’s questions but had problems every time the questions addressed the two sons directly.

“Do you regret what you have done?” Evang asked towards the end of the interrogation.

“Yes, I wish I had sought help,” the woman replied.
