More than 400,000 Russian soldiers and military personnel will be vaccinated against the coronavirus. The first 80,000 will receive the vaccine by the end of December.

So far, 2,500 in the military have already been vaccinated, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told Russian news agency Interfax on Friday.

Russia is the first country to start a general vaccination.

Vaccination in Russia started months ago

In August, the Russian vaccine Sputnik V has started being administered, and it has so far been given to around 40,000 volunteers.

The Minister of Defense was himself given the vaccine in September, according to Interfax.

Russia is among the countries with the most coronavirus cases, and around 2.2 million people have been confirmed infected with the virus.

A total of 27,500 infected people have died in connection with the coronavirus, according to figures from the authorities.
