Russia has been suspended from the Council of Europe as a result of the war in Ukraine.

The Council of Europe is an intergovernmental organization with 47 member states. Its most important task is to protect human rights, democracy, and the rule of law in Europe.

All European countries, with the exception of Belarus and Kosovo, are members of the Council.

After the annexation of Crimea in 2014, Russia was deprived of the right to vote in the Council of Europe, but in 2019 the country got it back.
