Russia: Ukraine’s air bases and air defenses have been “neutralized”

The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that Ukrainian air bases and air defense facilities are now out of action.

“The military infrastructure at Ukrainian air bases has been neutralized,” an announcement from the Russian Ministry of Defense stated, as reproduced by Russian media, among them the state broadcaster Vesti.

According to the report, the air defense facilities around the Ukrainian capital Kyiv have also been “eliminated.”

Russia launches attack on Ukraine

In the middle of the night, around 4 AM Norwegian time, in an extraordinary television address, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia was launching a military operation in Ukraine.

Putin announced the attack on Ukraine during an extraordinary session of the UN Security Council.

Ukraine has closed its airspace to civilian flights. CNN journalists report explosions in Kyiv and at least six other Ukrainian cities.
