Ryde is temporarily stopping electric scooters rentals at night on weekends in the four largest cities in Norway. The company encourages other industry players to take responsibility.

In a press release on Thursday, Ryde noted that they are concerned about the number of accidents and the extent of damage associated with the use of scooters by people under the influence of alcohol in the big cities.

On Thursday, there was a meeting in Bergen between the electric scooter industry players, Bergen Municipality, the emergency room service, and the police.

In the same way as in Oslo, there was a clear desire from the public sector for stopping rentals at night in Bergen.

Ryde believes these requests should be listened to but adds that, in this case, it is not useful to act alone.

“If the measure is not implemented jointly, there will be other electric scooters available. Then we achieve nothing except for users moving from a Ryde scooter to another supplier,” Eivind Saga, chairman of the board in Ryde, noted

After dialogue with Trondheim and Stavanger authorities, Ryde has also made a similar decision for these two cities, the company noted.
