Schools in Voss have jointly determined that students in their municipalities will not attend the traditional Christmas service in the church.

– Disappointing, says the priest of the municipality.
In a letter to the church, all schools in Voss wrote that they are dropping the Christmas service from this year. Instead, they will come to the church at other times of the year, said NRK news.

– My reaction is that this spontaneously removes the Christian and humanistic heritage and experience of Christmas in church, says priest Kjersti Brakestad Boge.

After Skule Stad school in Voss last year did not attend the Christmas service, principals of all schools in the municipality launched a joint stance.

Principals wrote in the letter that the costs of transport is a factor.

They also wish that the issue of Christmas service will not divide schools, students and parents.

– I think it’s very sad that they will not arrange school worship services when 90 percent of the students are members of the state church.

Voss has a tradition of Christmas service, says priest Kjersti Brakestad Boge.
