In 2015 Norwegian asylum centers warned of five unaccompanied minors they assumed were being exploited for prostitution or other sexual services. By comparison, got UDI only one such warning in 2014.
The asylum seekers were aged 15 to 18 years, according to the newspaper VG.
– There may also be unrecorded cases of possible victims of human trafficking – the numbers we have got are based on manual reports.
There were great many unaccompanied minor asylum seekers coming to Norway last autumn, and so far this year we have not received any reports that unaccompanied asylum seeking minors in reception centres prostitute themselves, says press spokesman John Olav Kroken of the Immigration department(UDI).
In a recent Fafo report the researches describe how the reception staff were helpless witnesses to a 16 year old girl travelling in to the nearest town to sell sex.
UDI had no authority to take enforcement action, and CPS did not intervene.
– If a 16-year-olds prostitutes themselves, the Child Protection Services should intervene precisely because UDI is unable to take any action. The local child welfare office must consider care, says one of the researchers behind the report Guri Tyldum.
