Several hundred young people gathered to protest the new corona measures in the Netherlands on Saturday night. Among other things, the new measures mean that restaurants and bars must close at 8 PM.

The young people who gathered in the center of Leeuwarden lit fireworks until the police reacted.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte introduced the partial lockdown on Friday. He said he wanted to crack down hard on the virus and that the lockdown would last for three weeks.

85% of adult Dutch people have been fully vaccinated, but that has not prevented a new wave of infection cases. In the last 24 hours, 16,364 new infection cases were reported, the highest number since the pandemic began.

A total of 18,600 people have died in relation to the coronavirus in the country.
