The Danish national broadcaster (DR) is offering compensation to 22 former members of the DR Girls’ Choir after they were subjected to sexual harassment.

Everyone will be paid 25,000 Danish kroner, DR stated in a press release on Tuesday.

The amount corresponds to NOK 33,000. The recipients of the compensation were all minors when two former chief conductors committed the abuse.

DR’s cultural director Henrik Bo Nielsen says that they would like the amount to be higher, but as a state-owned institution, the national broadcaster cannot determine the amount itself, according to the newspaper Politiken.

External investigation

DR launched an external investigation after allegations emerged in the wake of the #metoo movement that the girls in the girls’ choir had been subjected to abusive behavior.

The investigation concluded that 22 out of 64 former members are entitled to compensation.

The case is considered one of the most serious within the framework of the #metoo movement in Danish cultural life. Bo Nielsen also wished that the 42 other women had received compensation.
