Sisters aged 18 and 12 from Oslo die after getting hit by lightning strike in Hareid

Sisters Benedicte (18) and Victoria Myrset (12) from Oslo died after they were hit by a lightning strike on Melshorn mountain in Hareid on Sunday afternoon.

The Møre og Romsdal Police District confirmed the information in a press release on Monday morning. The emergency services were notified of the lightning strike just after 5 PM on Sunday.

The names have been released in consultation with the relatives. According to Mayor Bernt Brandal in Hareid Municipality, the sisters were on holiday there.

The two sisters were dead when rescue workers found them. There were three sisters in total in the tour group that was hit by the lightning strike.

The third was seriously injured, and she was admitted to Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen on Monday.

The Melshorn mountain is 668 meters above sea level and is a popular hiking destination.

There was a lot of changing weather in Møre og Romsdal on Sunday, and several rescue operations were launched in connection with the weather.
