While the number of stolen boats in Agder was six in June last year, it rose to 35 in the same month this year.

The figure applies to all motor vessels with engines. The only boat type that is not included in the statistics are rowing boats, writes Fædrelandsvennen.

The police point out that there is no suspicion of organized crime, and that there are no common features in the boat thefts.

– “My thought is that there is a connection with the fact that there are several boats, and that they are out. When several Norwegians holiday in Norway, they use their boat. It is also a record year for the sale of boats, both new boats and on the second-hand market,” says Hege Sørensen, head of the Joint Criminal Proceedings in the Agder police district.

The insurance company Gjensidige states that it is in Sørlandet, Østlandet and Vestlandet that most boats are stolen.
