Solberg and Brende will not say anything about Donald Trump

Foreign Minister Brende had to search for the right words when the Christian Democratic Party leader Knut Arild Hareide asked him about Donald Trump in a parliamentary question on Wednesday.

As representative Hareide knows perfectly well, it is not wise for a Norwegian foreign minister to have views on various candidates and a democratic process taking place in another country. This is not just any country. This is our closest ally. The US is a very good friend of Norway, said Brende.
He added that he if following the US election campaign closely and that Norway will be ready to cooperate with the next US administration, regardless of its composition.
Prime Minister Erna Solberg would rather not say anything about the controversial American politician.
– As the Norwegian prime minister, I have no opinion on the election campaign and who will become president of the United States. I do not have any opinions. I think that the best way to safeguard Norwegian national interests is to not  comment on candidates in other countries, she said to NTB in Brussels Wednesday.
