Prime Minister Erna Solberg wants to make the public sector less polluting. Høyre (right) wants an end to diesel buses within ten years.
“We believe that by 2030 we should not have buses running on fossil fuels. That’s why you have to start buying the right buses for that, now. If we are to manage to cut emissions by 50 percent, the counties must be included,” says Solberg (H) to Aftenposten.
In general, the counties are responsible for public transport in the country. Solberg says this gives them a very large market power, and that there are two things the counties need to get better at:
“One is to raise awareness of the environment and climate in their tenders. The second is that they can be innovative in new environmental technology in the tenders and demand new solutions,” she says.
The Prime Minister believes that we must prepare for the future to take care of the environment. However, she emphasizes that absentees due to sickness is also expensive, when children get respiratory infections due to bad air.
